Astrophysical observations tell us that visible matter constitutes only a small fraction of the mass of the universe. Physicists have theorized the existence of 'dark matter' to account for this missing mass. Experiments are underway worldwide which aim to observe these dark matter particles directly. A new Canadian experiment (DEAP-3600), which is located 2 km underground at the SNOLAB, employs a high sensitivity 3.6 tonnes liquid argon detector.

In this lecture, Dr. Mark Boulay, associate professor in Experimental Physics at Carleton University and lead researcher on the DEAP-3600 experiment will give an overview of the current dark matter search effort and provide a description and report on the status of DEAP-3600.
