“University reconciliation will (probably) be underfunded: Indigenous studies in an age of apologies”.
How do universities “do” reconciliation and what role should the discipline of Indigenous studies play in these dynamics? In this presentation I will distinguish between the intellectual and institutional elements of Indigenous studies while noting the central importance of the latter to anchoring a robust growth in the discipline. I will then explain the central role that Indigenous studies can and should play in universities’ attempts at reconciliation but why they probably will never receive the fiscal or symbolic resources they should.
