Host Organization: National Capital Confucius Institute

The National Capital Confucius Institute at Carleton University will host a workshop to promote Ottawa-Beijing Tourism and Culture, in partnership with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism and Development, Ottawa Tourism, and the China Youth Travel Service.

The workshop will focus on bilateral regional tourism partnership and cross-cultural branding through digital technology and 3D applications.

Topics will include:
• Tourism promotion in the context of bilateral social and economic development
• Tourism, study tour and people-to-people exchange
• Cross-cultural Branding with new Digital Media
• Tourism and entrepreneurship

The guest speakers will include the Vice Chairwoman of Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism and Development, Deputy Managing Director of CYTS Overseas market, representatives from Chinese airlines, representatives from the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Tourism, Dr. Pauline Rankin, Associate Vice President (Research and International) at Carleton University.

The workshop also includes presentations by Carleton students how have traveled and studied in Beijing. The Beijing Tourism and Culture Digital Centre will be unveiled at the event. The audience are welcome to test and experience the 3D and VR presentation of Beijing Tourism and Culture.

9:00-9:30am: Registration (DT 2017)
9:30-11:45am: Opening and Speeches (DT 2017)
12:00-1:00pm: 3D demonstration and presentation (DT2017, refreshments will be served)

Tourism is one of the key areas of partnership between Ottawa and its sister city Beijing. The China Youth Travel Service is one of three largest travel services in China, with a focus on the youth.

Workshop attendees will include the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ottawa, and representatives from the Ottawa tour industry, higher education institutions, and secondary school boards in Ottawa.
