The event will feed into the work of the Commission on Global Governance for Health, which was launched in November 2011 by the medical journal The Lancet and the University of Oslo, in partnership with the Harvard Global Health Institute.

The Commission is mandated to examine and make recommendations to the United Nations on how health can better be taken into account in multiple arenas of global governance in order to protect and promote the health of the world’s populations. We hope that this conference will be an opportunity to gather innovative proposals and ideas for the Commission.

We are honoured that confirmed speakers include Dr Sigrun Møgedal, former Norwegian HIV/AIDS Ambassador. She will deliver a keynote address entitled “Global Governance for Health – Relevance for Rio+20 and Sustainable Development Goals.” Other confirmed speakers include Amir Attaran (University of Ottawa), Marc-André Gagnon (Carleton University), Judith Shamian (Canadian Nurses Association), and Rachel Kiddell-Monroe (The Universities Allied for Essential Medicine). André Picard, a public health reporter from the Globe and Mail, will also chair a panel.
