About this Event

Host Organization: MacOdrum Library

Join us at the Library for the 2015 Throwback edition of Carleton Reads, which we’re calling Carleton Laughs: it’s a celebration of both books and humour. Members of the Carleton community will defend their favourite comic novels and other funny books, and audience members will vote on the winner.

• Barney’s Version, by Mordecai Richler (defended by Dick Bourgeois-Doyle, author of What’s So Funny? Lessons from Canada’s Leacock Medal for Humour Writing)
• Bossypants, by Tiny Fey (defended by Laura Storey, Director of Housing and Student Life, Carleton University)
• Great Apes, by Will Self (defended by Grant Williams, Chair of the Dept. of English, Carleton University)
• Stumbling on Happiness, by Daniel Gilbert (defended by Jim Davies, Director of the Science of Imagination Laboratory at Carleton, and author of Riveted: The Science of Why Jokes Make Us Laugh, Movies Make Us Cry, and Religion Makes Us Feel One with the Universe)

The event will also include a set from standup comedian Jen Grant and will be emceed by CBC Radio personality Laurence Wall (both Carleton alums). It should be a fun evening!
